“Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are.” ― Niccolò Machiavelli, The Prince

---------- edit the idea... well in a nutshell a machiavellian is defined by oxford dict as "the employment of cunning and duplicity in statecraft or in general conduct" the whole collection worked on this split opinion aspect. see the pant in the middle, how it looks rather covered up in the front view, but it's actuallh slutty from the back?
the mushroom skirt in the far left is inspired by the slash and openings of rennaisance garb,it looks as if some other person is threatening to come out, like how machiavellians hide their true personality; hence the extreme puckering. half my inspiration came from the medici's and the venice carnical's "medico della peste", which as you've said, the plague mask.
i've juxtaposed the medicis as pest doctors of sorts. the pest doctor was considered a "memento mori" which is translated as "remember you will die" which is ironic cause the doctors were meant to alliviate the plight of the plague victims, but there was nothing much they could do to cure them anyway so instead they became "symbols of death" because if you were visited by one that meant you were sick and dying.
and i used the medici's because well, they're more like the Godfather of the rennaisance. ole mach dedicated the book to a medici in hopes to get to their good side... or something.
the medicis were politically powerful, but they were manipulative, they had to keep a good image as a leader. they would make their political enemies appear like "pests" that they have to get rid of. but they're onviously just protecting their position so instead of becoming doctors, they become a sort of "memento mori".
~ answering ~chorsahgryphon's question in regards to the idea. /edit
have a quote from my man nic. or have a go at saying something "artist's comment" worthy for me cuz i'm so sleep deprived whatever i say would be second rate.
anyway, this is the first time i've uploaded school related art since i started this glorious path called "university". and glory entails blood, sweat and tears. i'm currently sewing up that pants in the middle... the number of heart attacks i've experienced was as many as the seams i had to unpick.
and dammit i'm not even satisfied with how this plate looks. wish me infinite luck on wednesday's panel assessment. i sorely need it.
I'm currently taking world history (currently studying the Renaissance) but I want to go to University for Fashion design i clicked on this for the clothes and freaked out when i saw the connections <3<3
they were one of my inspirations for the collection. i was showing my teacher these: [link] in my folio. and she casually remarks "oh i worked on that collection" and i was like... dazed for a bit. she interened for them. i wanna intern for them too! /sobs
...just out of curiousity why is so much of your fashion work in storage?
the idea it so awesome.
